Privacy requests & privacy contact
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it. Last reviewed 12 September 2026.
1. What you can ask for
- Access — a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction — a fix where something we hold is wrong or out of date.
- Deletion — removal of your account information where we are not required to keep it.
There is no charge for a normal request.
2. How to make a request
The quickest way is from your account: sign in and submit a privacy request. It is recorded against your account so we can confirm your identity, and only you and authorised staff can see it.
If you cannot sign in, email our privacy officer at [PLACEHOLDER — privacy officer email address]. We may ask for enough information to confirm who you are before releasing anything — we will not release personal information to someone who cannot prove the account is theirs.
3. How long we take
We aim to acknowledge requests quickly and will respond as soon as reasonably practicable, and no later than 20 working days after receiving the request, as required by the Privacy Act 2020. If we need more time we will tell you why.
4. When we may refuse or limit a request
There are limited grounds for refusal in the Privacy Act — for example where releasing information would disclose someone else's personal information, or where we must keep records for a legal obligation or to investigate a report of misconduct.
If we refuse, we will explain why and tell you how to complain.
5. Deleting your account
A deletion request removes your profile information, your drafts and your favourites. Some records are kept where we have a lawful reason — for example a moderation record, an audit log entry, or a message that forms part of another person's conversation history.
Published listings you no longer want visible can be archived by you at any time without a privacy request.
6. Privacy officer
Our privacy officer is [PLACEHOLDER — privacy officer name], contactable at [PLACEHOLDER — privacy officer email address]. Postal contact: [PLACEHOLDER — registered street address, New Zealand]. These are placeholders and must be replaced with real details before public launch.
7. Complaints
If you are not satisfied with how we handle your information or your request, you can complain to us first and then to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, which can investigate privacy complaints in New Zealand.
